US envoy confident in Filipinos way to solve present political crisis in Philippines

A top US government official has voiced confidence in the ongoing crisis besetting the Philippines, saying that he has no doubt the Filipino people can solve this political issues.
“I’m confident that within the context of democracy, the Philippines can solve its political problems,” said US Ambassador Christopher Hill, Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs.
Hill made the comments while on a visit to Talisayan National High School in the west coast of Zamboanga City on Wednesday to inaugurate the USAID’s GEM Computer Literacy and Internet Connection (CLIC) program.
He arrived in Manila Tuesday on a three-day official visit to attend meetings of the Asean Regional Forum Inter-Sessional Support Group on Confidence-Building Measures and Preventive Diplomacy.
“Philippines has some challenges and political issues to deal with. But I think it’s very important for Americans coming here to make a point that this (crisis) is for the Filipino people to resolve,” he said.
Earlier after President Gloria Arroyo declared a state of national emergency, the US government through its Embassy in Manila called on Philippine government and the Filipino people to respect fully the rule of law, protect civil liberties and human rights, and reject violence. – (ZS) Read More
